Saying by faith, “Though…yet…”

Let me give you a little encouragement here from one the books of the Bible that you turn to on a regular basis…Habakkuk.

Habakkuk has heard from God (in chapters 1-2) in ways that he didn’t expect.  God had shown him some very difficult things that were coming down the pipeline.  God had said he was going to bring judgment to his people b/c of their sin.  Not what you want to hear.

But the following is Habakkuk’s response of faith in Habakkuk 3:17-18.

17 Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Do you see Habakkuk’s response???

v.17 – Though…(fill in the blank with your list of bad things)

v. 18 – Yet, my joy will remain strong in God.

This is a huge faith statement that we need to find ourselves able to say.  “We will trust God and rejoice in him no matter what.”

One Response to Saying by faith, “Though…yet…”

  1. Ben Simpson says:

    Mark, thanks for the encouragement from Habakkuk! I pray that I will find my joy and contentment in God, who both gives and takes away (Job 1:21). As you point out, if we really trust God, we’ll praise God in both gain and loss because we know that if we are His child, He’s working all things for our good (Romans 8:28-30). Great devotional thought!
