God with a Skin Face

During my first year at Dallas Theological Seminary I attended Legacy Church in Plano, TX.  It was there that I heard my all time favorite Christmas sermon preached by pastor Gene Wilkes.  He called the message “God with a Skin Face”.

That’s exactly what the incarnation is…God with a skin face.  From John 1 we learn…

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (v. 14)

No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he [Jesus] has made him [God] known. (v. 18

The incarnation (Jesus becoming human) is beautiful.  It is through the incarnation that we come to know what God is like.  The author of Hebrews says it this way in Heb. 1:3, “He [Jesus] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature”

It’s kinda like when my 5 year old Luke looked at me recently and said, “Daddy, Jesus is God.”  That’s right.  Jesus is God with a skin face, so that we might understand and know what God is truly like.

Know him this Christmas.
